Whether this is your first time or you’re a returning visitor, we hope you’ll take the time to check out the local attractions, food and art. Here’s a few ideas on how you can spend your time.
If you’re looking for a great way to soak in the local scenery, why not take a stroll and take in the view.
From your front door, head south to the Onkaparinga River and walk south along the bank. About 300m along, you’ll see a staircase up into the dunes, follow the path and you’ll be greeted with a fork. Go right to take the short way along the beach towards the jetty, or go left to stroll further through the dunes to the beach, then right along the beach to the jetty.
If it’s not too windy, head to the end of the jetty and take in the salty air. Don’t forget to chat to a few friendly fisherman as you take a peek in their bucket. Coming home is as simple as a walk along Saltfleet Street.
You’re right in the middle of two great local art hubs. Sauerbier House is located just down the road and hosts emerging and independent artists. Open W-F 10am-4pm, Sat 12pm-4pm, S-T closed.
The Onkaparinga Arts Centre is located 200m away on Gawler Street and has 3 gallery spaces that change regularly. Open M-F 10am-4pm, Sat 12pm-4pm, Sun closed.
If you were really serious about wine, you would probably be staying in McLaren Vale, but we’re glad you didn’t - this is a much better place to relax the day after anyway. Wine tours come in all shapes and sizes so do a Google search for what you’re after.
Hungry for freshly-battered fish and hand-cut hot chips? Jimmy’s Fish & Chips, (22 Saltfleet Street) is a great place to pick them up. Take a towel or two with you and head down to the beach or sit in the park nearby and enjoy the sunset.
You’re in Bird In Hand Cottage, Port Noarlunga now - relax and take a load off. Work, hussle, travel plans and arguing with your in-laws can wait until tomorrow. Tonight it’s all about you. Take a nice hot shower then pull out a book and relax.
